Organic, Fresh and Homemade Baby Food

I never really thought I would enjoy making baby food but it’s actually really fun. You can even make it really easy for yourself and buy pre-peeled and pre-cut veggies from your grocery store. I personally don’t do that because I enjoy cutting everything up and washing everything my way.

With a food processor, ice cube trays, and a steaming basket I can make a months worth of food in a day.

Today I made peas for my Rylie girl and they turned out really great! Peas are easiest to make if you just buy the frozen ones that come in the steamer bag. I steam them in the microwave and just dump them right into my food processor. When they are done being puréed I put them into ice cube trays and put them right into the freezer. Once they are frozen I put them into gallon size freezer bags date them and they are ready for when I need them.

I was able to make 14 jars worth for $4. You can’t buy organic baby food anywhere for that price. Not to mention it is so much fresher than jarred food you buy at the grocery store.

So far I have made her squash, sweet potatoes, avocados, apples, pears and bananas. She hasn’t disliked anything yet. It’s so satisfying knowing my baby is eating something that I made! It’s definitely not for everyone. It does require a little bit of effort but if you enjoy cooking give it a try. You might really like it.

I use ice cube trays with covers so I don’t have to put them in freezer bags.

I find it so convenient that I can steam the peas right in the bag.

I love our Black and Decker food processor. I’ve never had a problem with it and it’s fairly inexpensive.

Two bags of peas filled two ice cube trays. This equals about 14 jars of food.

I wanted to compare the colors of store bought jar peas compared to the ones I made. There is a very big color difference between the two.

Sure looks easy enough, after prep, to make. Nutritious, natural and made by mom! Can’t get much better than that! (But did you have to demo peas? Lol)
